Step 2 of the registration process. This is only for planning purposes
and does not guarantee seating at the workshop. Workshop seating is
limited to 30 participants and will be on a first come first served
basis at the conference registration. Following is a preliminary description of the workshops:
Workshop #1: 6/13 (Wed) 2:15-3:45 pm
Describes and teaches various strategies to obtain sponsored projects
for capstone design from industry, government labs and other agencies.
Questions such as how to get started, who to contact, how to make
contact, what are expectations of sponsors, etc will be discussed.
Workshop #2: 6/13 (Wed) 4:15-5:45 pm
This workshop will help to teach faculty members how to obtain the
best performance from capstone design teams. This workshop will deal
with dysfunctional teams, poor team leaders, poor team performance,
etc and some possible solutions to these problems.
Workshop#3 6/14 (Thurs) 9:45-12:30 pm
This workshop will focus on two critical and inter-related issues
in capstone design projects - project formation and faculty involvement.
Project formation is a notoriously difficult process in any environment,
whether it is academia or industry. This difficulty is compounded
by the unique problems associated with appropriate faculty advising.
Workshop #4: 6/14 (Thurs) 1:30-3:00 pm
Giving an effective oral presentation is extremely important in a
business environment. Thus, teaching students to accomplish this will
give them an important tool for their future. This workshop will teach
faculty advisors how to instruct students, so that the students will
become skillful in this area.
Workshop #5: 6/15 (Fri) 9:45-11:15 am
The purpose of this interactive workshop is to introduce participants
to classroom assessment techniques and tools developed for capstone
engineering design courses. Participants will be introduced to the
research foundation for capstone engineering design assessments, explore
specific assessment instruments, and have the opportunity to review
student work and scoring from selected assessments.
